Advice from Nyungne Lama, Spiritual Director of RKRL, on April 8, 2008:

These are trying times throughout the world, and the Olympics in Beijing have heightened the tension. His Holiness the Dalai Lama is one of the world's most important men at this time, standing between China and the West. He is our example in his compassion and lovingkindness and his nonviolent approach to conflict resolution. So please pray for peace and happiness for all beings, and recite the six-syllable mantra and any other Chenrezig mantras you know [please consider joining us for our special Nyungne Retreat in June]. Most importantly, though, please hold compassion and lovingkindness in your hearts. And sit still and pray a lot!

Yours in the Dharma,

Nyungne Lama

Rangjung Kunchyab Rime Ling is a small dharma community centered in Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii. It was created by student demand as a place to be able to more easily access, learn and practice Vajrayana/Mahayana/Tantric meditation with close supervision by a resident lama.

The goal of our center is for all who visit to feel welcome and part of our dharma "family", while equally encouraged to find their own unique paths through the maze of dharma teachings, empowering them to reduce suffering for themselves and others.

A sense of humor is mandatory.

Teachings

Nyungne Lama's goal is for all students to cultivate more compassion in their lives, with the result that other beings suffer less. All of the practices that we do have that end in mind. "These teachings are consistent with my views on psychology, society, and internality/externality." A nice side effect is that our own mental health benefits as well.

We find that our meditation is even more powerful, and results come more quickly, when we do it in a group in addition to our individual practice sessions.

Nyungne Lama is uniquely suited to leading this endeavor. He is a long time Hawaii resident with graduate schooling in psychology and religious sciences and plenty of life experience. He was given his title in 2003 by Lama Lodu Rinpoche after over two decades of intensive Tibetan Buddhist meditation.  He holds teachings from all the major lineages of Tibetan Buddhism (Kagyu, Nyingma, Sakya, Gelug) and from most of the highest lamas to teach in the west (including Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche).

He is particularly adept in the teaching and practice of Chod, Nyung Ne (a 1000-armed Chenrezig purification ritual), and phowa (transference of consciousness).
